Es Cap de Barbaria

The Cap de Barbaria is the southernmost area of Formentera. In addition, it is said that its name comes from its relative proximity to the African coast, also called the Barbary coast. It is an area which is very typical of the island with woods, cultivated lands and a coastline with caves and gullies that lead to the sea.

At the end of the Cap de Barbaria is the most desolate, arid, and rocky area of the island known as "Sa Tanca d´Allà Dins." Totally uninhabited, except for some wild goats, this immense flat land has very little vegetation except for scrub brush and rosemary. Its attraction resides in its solitude, a world of peace and tranquillity that we enter as we look toward the horizon where the sea blends into the sky.

There is a lighthouse at the tip of the cliffs which warns navigators of the proximity of the rocks and reefs and which offers a spectacle of lights during the night.
