The island of Formentera is part of the Balearic archipelago and is the smallest island in area. It is located in the center of the western Mediterranean, to the east of the Iberian Peninsula. Together Formentera and Ibiza make up the Pitiusa Islands.Ibiza and Formentera are separated by a narrow strait called "Es Freus" that is surrounded by small islets.
The exact geographical location of Formentera is defined by the UTM coordinates: :
31S CC 640 928 Punta de Trucadors (North)
31S CC 598 788 Cap de Barbaria (South)
31S CC 769 813 Punta de Ses Roques (East)
31S CC 594 842 Punta Rasa (West)
Obviously, since Formentera does not have an airport, the only way to reach there is by sea. Formentera is connected to Ibiza and to the mainland by boat. The usual way to reach Formentera is to fly to Ibiza or to take a boat from the mainland and then to take a boat, from the port, that goes to Formentera. Various airlines have international flights that connect Ibiza with important European cities. Once you have arrived in Ibiza, you only have an enjoyable boat ride of 30 minutes (or an hour, depending on which type of boat you choose) until you arrive in Formentera.
